The Photo by © Eleanor Burns |
This block is a vintage pattern that celebrates the fall season and the history of the White House. It was inspired by Eleanor Burns' book Tales of First Ladies, which features stories and quilts from different presidential eras. The block was originally named by Mabel Obenchain of Famous Features, a mail-order source of quilt patterns that started in the 1940s. It was also called White House by Nancy Cabot in 1937, when Eleanor Roosevelt was the first lady.
Fabric Selection: Choose four color families for this block: one for the corner squares, one for the triangle squares, one for the nine-patches, and one for the background. You can use scraps or coordinated fabrics to create contrast and harmony in your block.
